For years, scoring windsurfing regattas had been accomplished with manual methods.  This application was one of the first structured scoring tools specially designed for windsurfing regattas and has now been adopted as the standard by the U.S. Windsurfing Association.  The application is used to score most major U.S. regattas.  It was created with MS Excel and Visual Basic.  The application includes the following features.

It is based on MS Excel which is familiar to almost all regatta scorers.

A number of scoring options and conventions are accommodated.

The scorer is instantly alerted about unlisted sail numbers and duplicate entries. This is a constant problem in windsurfing regattas where competitors often change and trade sails.

Scoring is done instantly and can be presented according to a number of user selected parameters.  Rescoring can be done as many times as necessary.

A number of scenarios problematic to windsurfing are easily accommodated including competitors changing classes or using multiple sail numbers.  Internal checks ensure that conflicts are always communicated to the scorer.

An export utility is provided to generate regatta results in Microsoft Word format.

The application is very easy to use and comes with easy-to-follow instructions.

All who have used this application rave about its ease of use and accuracy. In one case, a scorer was trying to score a large regatta manually, but gave up at the eleventh hour.  She decided to open the scoring application and read the instructions.  Within an hour, she had the entire regatta scored.
